About Portraits

Portraiture makes a wonderful, lasting gift – of children at a certain age, brides, graduations, or just to commemorate how special someone is to you.  A portrait is one Human Being’s artistic attempt to capture the look and feeling of another Human Being.  The portrait may lack detail, and sometimes even the exact features of the portrayed person, and yet, it captures who that person is at a certain place in time.  It says, “This is me, and there isn’t another like ME in the world.”  It does this by utilizing the artist’s perception and creativity, and the result should be a unique, one-of-a-kind gift as amazingly individual as the person being portrayed.

Pricing is per each individual portrayed.  If you have, say, three children, rather than portraying them in a group (I charge per face, plus $100 extra), why not consider having each child’s portrait done when they reach a certain age?  I encourage single portraits of children -- mainly because at some point they may inherit the portrait, or you may want to give it to them.  I’ve run into situations where both grown children wanted a single portrait of the two of them.  It is simpler to give them each their own portrait.

Pencil portraits (single person) approx. 8" X 10" begin at $150.

Pencil portraits approx. 12" X 16" begin at $300.

            Pencil portraits approx. 16" X 18" begin at $600.

Pencil (with touches of color), watercolor or watercolor pencil, and pastel portraits generally begin at $50 to 100 extra, depending on the size and detail.

Acrylic, Watercolor, and clay are generally $50 -- 200 extra, depending on size and detail.

I also do wall painting, and those prices depend on the area, detail, time and materials required, and usually start (area approx. 3’ X 4’ at $500 - $600.  Talk to me about painting on canvas.  You can take it with you when you move. Also, consider a portrait of your child as a nursery book or fantasy figure.  I love to do children’s rooms!

I accept half the payment at the time I begin the portrait, and the balance at time of completion.  The work is not finalized until we’re both happy about the results.  I can make copies for you, but request you do not attempt to make copies once I release the portrait to you.  Copy prices vary according to what type you want, and the current cost to me at the time.

Thank you so much for your interest in my artwork,
